I have the day off today, and we have the TV on for a change. - TopicsExpress

I have the day off today, and we have the TV on for a change. MSNBC is running their complete coverage of the WTC 9/11 tragedy, uninterrupted and in real time. It is disturbing to recall the event-by-event replay, watching my home clock and the replay clock on TV coincide. I have worked on every single anniversary since it happened and have not seen more than evening news highlight coverage that is always run on 9/11 each year. This is so disturbing to watch, not just because of the horrific events, but also because so many of those feelings have been buried as the years passed. Each moment of anguish, shock and horror are felt again, almost identical to the way I and those with me felt as we watched it unfold in 2001. I hope we never forget how vulnerable we are as individuals as well as a nation. It is frightening to think we are that easily brought to our knees. I ache for the families and friends of those who were lost. I revere the fire and EMS responders, the military personnel, the unnamed civilian heroes, the medical personnel, the correspondents who stayed to record the events, and the government officials who had to make the instantaneous decisions of what to do next to protect the rest of us. Even the clean-up crews deserve more than a mere mention. There arent any appropriate words of thanks that can cover it. Just re-watching the coverage today has made me think more about the things I never considered previously. It is chilling, frightening, and inspiring all at once. One day of war in our country is enough to last a lifetime. I hope we never come this close again. I ache today for the risks taken by those who protect us every single day, here on our soil, and in foreign places as well. Heroes are everywhere, and I am profoundly grateful.
