I have the most amazing sister in Anna-Clare Basanyukira Lukoma. She is an extremely thoughtful and driven individual. I have to emphasise that because very rarely do you find that combination driven and thoughtful. She carries herself with poise, elan (yes, I used it), and utmost professionalism. Where others see desolation, destruction and resignation, she pulls out hope and crafts infinite creative possibilities. In her short period here in Uganda she has shown me that not even 2 but ONE committed person can really change a family, and change a whole creative community. People are quick to dismiss fashionistas, as trite, extraneous to Africas causes, and not having business savvy. Her greatest invention this last 2 years is the marketing ploy of always wearing her garment creations !! The conversations, Thats beautiful, where did you buy it? The answer, a confident, I made it. And there in a flash you have a new or potential customer. She has taught me to be more organized. She has brought me the joy of being an uncle to a vivacious 5 year old nephew, who encourages me to remember what it was like being a little boy with his armament of toy cars. (Though he has told me, Uncle Michael I dont like your hospital because your nurses gave me an injection!! ) She has pushed me to make my self-improvement business into a reality, and not just an idea. Keep thinking fashionistas are trite, keep thinking you can rip them off, keeping thinking that they cannot change the world, one garment at a time, but remember that you may not have yet met Ms Lulu aka Ms Anna-Clare Basanyukira Lukoma aka Mama Henry...in her dangerous KIMONO !!!
