I have *the* most *beautiful* Daffadowndillies here on my desk. Pale lemon, almost heart-shaped petals with Inside Frilly Petticoats of Deepest Orange. I think we should bring Frilly Petticoats back, especially lace-edged Laura Ashley ones which showed just beneath our frocks and skirts. Or was that Broderie- Anglaise?...I never was any good at Needleworky Stuff..had a strong dislike of my Odious Needlework Teacher, Miss Lineham, who loathed me on sight, merely for being My Brothers Sister, whom she loathed with A Deadly Loathing as he had the audacity to answer her back. So NOT what you would risk doing to Miss Lineham. She was also, unfortunately, the Deputy Headmistress...a Foul & Festering Woman if ever there was one, who, had she been allowed, would have put us all in The Chokey for most of our school years. She used to measure our skirts....Very odd woman...Shed make us kneel down and then, shed measure how far our skirts were from the floor...Also, shed check our blouses to make sure she couldnt see any coloured bras through them, which were all the rage back then... I used to sit and sew crooked lines in her needlework classes, then stay sitting there, unpicking them again, so as I didnt have to take my work up to show her...Being left-handed, I sewed upside-down and back-to-front, of course, which Im sure she felt I did on purpose, purely to wind her up.. =D She never forgave me for telling her Id not done my Needlework Homework as Id given that time to studying French instead. This wasnt actually true, it was merely because I could not see the point of having to take home How To Sew papers printed in the 1930s (I kid you not!) which we had to copy out, word for word, diagram for diagram, ad infinitum..including instructions on how to make Cami-Knickers... I mean, WTF was THAT all about? So, my mind drifted into my Transistor Radio and soon, I was away with The Fabulous Music of those times, far, far away from Cami-Knicker-Island... Luckily, I could get my head around French, so when she snarled at me Well, I expect youll come top in French then! Ill be sure to keep an eye on your marks!, I wasnt too bothered, as French appealed me, so I could see the reason for learning that....I got 17/100 for my Needlework Exam though, was rather proud of having such a low mark... ;) I ended up giving the cushion cover Id made to my friend, so her dog could have her puppies on it...It reminded me too much of The Odious Woman so I couldnt bear to have it in the house. Everyone else had made a cushion cover, a pinny (an apron, for those too young to remember life in 1762) and a babys dress, but I just stuck to The Cushion Cover From Hell and The Crooked Lines sewn upon it.. =D To this day, I LOATHE needlework of any sort as it takes me right back to the wrath of that horrible woman... ALL Teachers should be like Miss Honey, without a doubt.... :) Right, time to enjoy Easter Monday now, off out somewhere with my children shortly....A Magical Mystery Tour, mayhap.... Roll Up, Roll Up for The Mystery Tour......Roll Up, Roll Up for The Mystery Tour... =D
