I have the original audiobook cassettes for PALE BLUE DOT. Theyre rather use-worn. This is a **gorgeous** short film that perfectly illustrates why I am a Hard SF writer who happily troops along in the mighty footprints of giants like Heinlein, Niven, et al. Sagan was a flawed man, but his words remain stirring. I applaud this production. A pitch-perfect blending of philosophy and imagery. Our present American era seems all-consumed with trivial concerns. The sacrificing of freedoms, for the illusion of safety. The inward-turning of the eye, both metaphorical and political. Wringing our hands over diminished horizons. Out, damned spot, out! But me? Im perched on the mountaintop at midnight, a jacket wrapped tightly around my shoulders. My soul belongs to the stars. My eyes to the sky. I am forever dreaming of a time when we will once again become a nation—a people!—of bold wanderers . . . .
