I have this morning learnt with shock and disbelief of the passing on of Hon Otieno Kajwang, who was until his untimely death the Senator for Homa Bay County. On behalf of the Council of Governors, the people of Bomet County and on my own behalf and my family, I wish to pass my heartfelt condolences to the friends and family of the late Senator. I have known the late Kajwang for many years now, during which time we have worked together as Members of Parliament and in more recent times as members of Kenya’s devolved fraternity. Senator Kajwang was gifted with brilliant intellect, which he placed at his country’s disposal as a patriotic, incisive and eloquent legislator. He took broad and informed positions on issues, always standing on the side of reason and the common good. With his passing the Senate, and by extension Kenya’s devolved family, has lost a gallant soldier and strident advocate for the principles and objectives of devolution. We will miss his invaluable contribution to debates and his exceptional wit and sense of humour. May God console his family and friends, and give them the strength to bear the sudden tragic loss.
