I have three immediate family members who served our country as well as many cousins, friends and neighbors-My father, Rodolfo R. Gaona, Sr., my brothers, Rudy Gaona and Bobby Gaona, my cousins: Leo & Tomas Tommy hernandez, Ovidio Sonny Garcia, Jr., Hector Garcia, David Curiel, Uncles Ovidio Garcia, Sr. and Raul Garcia...and so many more.... My father (pictured in this post) served in the US Army Air Corps and was attached to the 306th Bomber Group in England during WWII on the same air base known for the Memphis Belle. He was Honorably Discharged from service on February 3, 1946; having received the EAME Campaign Medal, a Distinguished Unit Badge, World War II Victory Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal. He also served in the United States Air Force Reserve from February 4, 1946 to February 2, 1953. My brother, Rudy, served in the US Navy for two tours of duty on a river patrol boat in Viet-Nam; having received two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star, V for Valor, and a letter of commendation from President Richard Nixon. My brother, Bobby, served in the US Navy as a radarman onboard the USS Raliegh, based in Norfolk, Va. Bobby toured the Spain and the Mediterranean Sea coast countries, naval wargames in the Indian Ocean going from there to San Diego, Ca. and then through the Panama Canal and a tour of the Carribean Sea nations. ( I think my brother Bobby had the best tour of duty out of all my family members who served!!) THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SERVICE TO YOUR NATION!!
