I have to admit somewhat surprised not much negative comments - TopicsExpress

I have to admit somewhat surprised not much negative comments after the newspaper article on the round table event this week. I did receive more than a couple of calls from business folks disappointed they were not invited. I stated it wasnt a case of excluding people or business people for any other reason than having the restrict it from having too many people at the table. First time for getting criticized for trying to do something positive, normally you get criticized for doing nothing. I understand the concern of taxpayers about wining and dining business people with tax dollars as I really did wrestle with that decision. It also was my decision solely as economic development is the accountability of the Mayor under the current direction of council. No other council members were involved in the decision so any comments or concerns should come to me not to them. I do want to clarify that there were concerns I was benefiting from certain events as the Mayor personally as was my family?? My wife did attend with me and we will not expect the city to pay for our tickets to the concert. If folks see LuVern and I at the concerts we have always paid our own ticket purchases. The event was hugely successful, wish I could share feedback from the industry people I have recieved this week and from the local business people. Everyone involved felt it was a significant event for our business community so I am taking that it was positive and am confident there will be benefits to the local business community and the city. You elect us to make decisions and display leadership, that involves making decisions and taking accountability for those decisions.
