I have to admit that Im staggered by the almost endless list of shootings at schools, workplaces, malls, movie theaters, you name it in this country. Were obsessed with security from terrorism and put gadzillions of dollars into theoretically protecting ourselves from it (entrenching a well-fed national security state and surveillance practices from hell in our lives) and at the same time people are blown away by ordinary wigged out men (never, it seems, women) and -- as at a couple of recent school shootings -- boys and no one even thinks of that as a security issue. Terrorism ranks just above shark attacks in terms of basic danger to Americans. Getting blown away at your local whatever, thats another story, as today at a mall outside Baltimore where three people, including the shooter are now dead.
