I have to admit to being greatly disappointed with this one after hearing so much positive buzz on it (and it probably didnt help following on the heels of me just having watched The Worlds End, which was much wittier and more cleverly crafted). I dont know the genesis of how this film came into being (though it says its based on a short film), but I visualize Seth Rogen sitting around watching The Mist with some friends (while no doubt high) and wondering out loud, Wouldnt it be crazy if we were partying at James Francos and something like this happened? And just like that we now have, This is the End! Or at least thats how it feels, as the movie is so disjointed, most of which feels improvised, and rather than putting the real life actors into some truly funny scenarios, its just falls into the usual dick jokes, while piling on the pot humor (of which Ive never been a fan of). Thats not to say theres not some funny scenes in this, as there are a few (mostly by Jonah Hill), but after a good set up in the first act, I couldve done without the whole apocalypse plot to begin with, as its clear by the midway point Rogen & Goldberg had no clue where they were going with it.
