I have to agree with Sarah Austin anyone (Francine Hardaway) who says women should stick to the jobs they are good at (and the implication that women are not able to learn coding) is doing the world a dis-service. If someone said Women shouldnt be Accountants because they dont know math or Women shouldnt be lawyers because they cant be persuasive or women shouldnt be doctors cause they shouldnt see blood would get a punch in the nose, but somehow if it is tech it is OK? And the Barbie on the post... I need to get out of Arizona. Here is what Sarah Austin said, Francine Hardaway Should Shut-Up About Technology. I am supportive of women in Tech. I am working on an initiative to show the world how great of coders women can be. But that is being undermined by ladies who never learned and so they write pieces to justify why they never bothered. Francine’s “Why Women Shouldn’t Code” is utter garbage. Everyone today should learn to code. Common Core should include Basic, or Python, or Java. Even if it is just LOGO and kids learn to draw stars moving the turtle that’s fine. But every kid should learn to code. Logic is one of the most important tools in life. Understanding an If/Then statement is the fundamental building block of every cause and effect a person will observe in their lifetime. Good managers read code. They understand logic. That doesn’t mean you need to know every programming language. You can learn PHP and Read Ruby. You can learn Java and read Erlang. but if you only read English you are not going to do so well reading Python. “Instead hire them for the talents they have”?
