I have to get this off my chest....Kobe is and will always be one - TopicsExpress

I have to get this off my chest....Kobe is and will always be one of the greatest to play the game of basketball. He will also always be one of my favorite players. What people need to understand is that great basketball players, or any good athlete for that matter, are recognized for more than just statistics. Its not always about having the MOST or the LEAST. Its about being remembered for something good. Will you really remember how many shots he missed? Really? Or, will you remember FIVE championships, 19 NBA seasons of buzzer beating action, 15 playoff appearances, 16 All-Star games, 1 season MVP, 2 finals MVP, etc. etc. The list goes on. Lets talk numbers since you are all so aroused by this recent accolade...Kobes career field goal % is .453. Forgot to mention Lebrons is .483. Jordan is at .497. You miss some, you make some. BTW, Kobe does have a higher 3-point percentage and free throw percentage (regular season) than Michael, even tho it is by just a few percentage points. Another argument I keep hearing is the Kobe is a ball hog argument. Please... Career all time NBA usage % leaders (A metric that estimates the percentage of his teams possessions a player uses while he is in the game. As players use more possessions, their overall efficiency tends to drop): 1. Michael Jordan*: 33.26 2. Dwyane Wade: 31.84 3. Allen Iverson: 31.83 4. Kobe Bryant: 31.78 5. Carmelo Anthony: 31.74 6. LeBron James: 31.60 7. George Gervin*: 30.68 8. Kevin Durant: 30.50 9. Dominique Wilkins*: 30.27 10. Shaquille O’Neal: 29.48 Enough of all these numbers. There is a reason why Kobe is loved and hated by so many. There is a reason why some of the all-time greats have praised Kobe. There is a reason why his jersey is third in the top-selling list for 2014. Kobe is 36-years-old. There is a component that we seldom talk about....THE MENTAL COMPONENT. Kobe is fearless, passionate, driven, etc. Read about his work ethic. Read about his will and determination. Tear your achilles and come back at 36 and still poop on most of the top defenders in the league. It is what it is. Hate it or love it, you all witnessed Kobe Bryant, and you should be thankful for it.
