I have to say I am SO OVER seeing all over fb, or hearing people say that they cant afford to show horses any more because they cant afford a $10,000 saddle and a few $5,000 jackets! Um, Im pretty convinced the judges are not judging your brand of saddle or how much silver is on it! They also do not let the chick with the most bling win! (If this was the case where would the guys finish?) What they are looking for (IMHO) is an overall well turned out horse and exhibitor which entails; a well groomed, clean, neatly banded & freshly clipped horse with properly fitting and clean equipment. (Whether it be halter, or bridle & saddle) I do think a matching pad is important, but its cost is also irrelevant, in my humble opinion of course. I also think that it is SO important that your clothes fit properly! They dont have to be dripping in Swarovski crystals to win, but your pants must be pressed, clean and long enough! It is preferred that your jacket look like it was made for you, not your sister that is 2 sizes bigger than you! Your hat doesnt have to be a pure beaver, but it should be clean& well shaped. You dont have to have $600 boots, but a nice shine on them goes a long way! I have never spent $1,000 on a single piece of show clothing I own. I have bought cheap things off ebay, or had them sewn & just jazzed them up myself. Just sayin, where theres a will, theres a way! OK, rant over (sorry)....
