I have to say i am very pleased with both sessions I had with Folly today. The first session was just to see what he was thinking and feeling. In general and about me. I felt he was interested in me but a bit apprehensive. I dont normally use treats during training but I went in and got a handful of alfalfa cubes. I approached him from his rear quarter. If he turned to acknowledge me, I approached and gave him a cube. This energized him a bit. He was still very slow and pokie but there was a difference. Later I went back in and put a rope halter on him and we did a little move off the energy work. I was happy to see that when I did use the lead to pull as a reinforcement he didnt overreact in any way. He just followed the energy.. again still much slower than your average horse but he is getting more flexible and more agile stepping out to the side with his hind end. He is listening to a light touch with the lead or my hand to bend and move away. As well as he is learning what the difference is. I did some sending and yielding his hind to stop him. Its not great or fast in any way but he is doing it. I know I am getting excited over some very small progressions but any progress that stops him from being a hazard to himself excites me. I am so looking forward to tomorrows session.
