I have to say that I dont like it when the media tries to divide - TopicsExpress

I have to say that I dont like it when the media tries to divide the Cuban exile community by pointing to unwarranted shifts towards softness. Sometimes the exile community is to blame for giving away the myth that there is a divide between young and old Cuban exiles when there is really none. The main lesson we ought to learn from the Cuban Revolution is that force lies in unity and unlike them, we are showing that unity does not necessarily mean sameness and that is precisely the kind of Cuba we want to build: a united Cuba amid its diversity with spaces for all stances and opinions to be equally respected. The exile community needs to get rid of that false divide that is been disgracefully extended by some people who try to divide and conquer our fighting spirit. When I look at the exile community (both young and old) I see a united people fighting to make Cuba free from totalitarianism. Is it real that some of us support the embargo and others dont? Yes, it is and that does not has to be a source of disunity. Respecting and understanding different positions and working to fit every view on how to attain a common goal are the basic characteristics of a functioning democracy and is something that we should and ought to do. I feel shame when young exiles demonize or refuse to put themselves on the shoes of the old generation. Likewise, I feel shame when an old person tries to shut down the young person by judging their own path illegitimate. We are better than that and if the goal is really one, then, there can be no place for this kind of non-sensical internal hostility.
