I have to share this: Ive been trying to avoid thinking about it! Im not even sure that I I dislike the concept Im going to talk about, the concept of outsider art and artists. I do not like being called, and outsider artist, because of struggle it brings up for me around my art school experience. I was constantly fighting that label! Because it wasnt very often presented positively. I was constantly given the label. I understand that it might refer to an aesthetic these days, but its still hurts me to hear it. Now, thats my own baggage, as Ive moved further in time from art school youd think it get easier to hear, but its not! Im a painter [and went to a lot of school to do it in my way], who organizes [and went through a lot of years and training to do it my way]. I happen to have a disability, and Im proud of that too.
