I have to share what one of my Facebook friends posted in response to the new autism numbers. Thank you for reading . This affects you, it affects me, it effects all of us. 1.2 million people who may never be able to serve in the military, hold a job, or live independently, and whats the answer? Better screening? Are you kidding me? Its been twenty years- we have to have a plan! We call for every media outlet to cover seven cases of the measles and we have 1 in 42 boys with autism and the coverage we get is a call in conference call to update old numbers? ….. There is still NO declaration of an emergency, an epidemic, a crisis...no call for scientists everywhere to solve this. They still arent counting my child in their old data, and they excuse this methodology. They still arent listening to those of us who have answers. So what did this call do, and what do these numbers mean? Little. Just that things continue down the same old path. That parents will have to keep fighting. That the panic has to come from us, because those in charge apparently dont get it or dont want to admit it. That they once against excused twenty years of poor decisions and will continue the same path. That they have no intention of changing leadership or direction. That it will be 1 in 40, 1 in 30, 1 in 20, 1in 10, 1in 5, 1 in 2. I remember my baby book for Cali stated the risk of autism was 1 in 10,000. She is 11. What’s the real risk for your child or grandchild…I think you know. I don’t think we have to wait for the CDC to tell us, the answers are pretty clear. And so whatever the real number is, we have a problem.
