I have to work tomorrow so I wanted to go ahead and post a little something for Veterans Day. Yes. I am a proud veteran who served for over 15 years and I am a better man for it. When I first went to basic training & AIT in 1982 I was a very troubled young man with no sense of purpose for my life. But during those four months something happened. I was assigned as a platoon leader in my squad and really for the first time in my life started to develop leadership qualities. Because I was an athlete the physical part of training was quite easy; and once I maxed out the PT test I started helping the weaker guys in my squad. This was when I first learned how amazing it felt to help others weaker than myself, and how great it was to help others reach their goals. As I look back on it now, even before I came to know the Lord, He had me in training for the day when He would call me to a greater purpose. I am so extremely proud to come from a family of men who faithfully served our great nation. Now let me take a moment to honor them: Lisa Davis Turner if there were any on the Davis side that I left off please add them in the comment section. I did not really keep up with them through the years and certainly dont want to overlook anyone from our family. My Great-Grandfather, Willie Davis - Army - World War I (deceased) My Grandfather, Jessie Harris Burt Sarrett, Sr. - Army World War I (deceased) My Grandfather, Cletus Brooks, Army - World War II (deceased) My Great Uncle, W.D. Davis - Army - World War II (deceased) My Uncle, James Edward Sarrett - Air Force (deceased) My Uncle, Jessie (Harris) Sarrett, Jr. - Army - Korean War, Vietnam War (deceased) My Uncle, Jerry Hartford Sarrett - Air Force (deceased) My Uncle, Johnny Monroe Sarrett - Army National Guard (deceased) My Uncle, Jackie Lee Sarrett - Navy Reserves My Father-in-law, Harry Rutledge, Army (Desert Storm)/National Guard My Brother, Larry Pitts, Army (Desert Storm)/National Guard My Cousin, Gary Sarrett, Coast Guard My Cousin, Tim Sarrett, Army/Air National Guard My Nephew, Randy Watson, Jr. - Army - Iraq War, and Afghanistan War Myself, Jerry Len Pitts, Jr. - Army (Desert Storm)/National Guard And to ALL the Veterans out there I want to say a big thank you for the sacrifices you have made so that we could have the freedoms we get to enjoy each and every day. And lets please remember to honor those families left at home who make so many sacrifices. I remember Janice Rutledge Pitts was pregnant with Jessica Lynn Pitts while I was activated during Desert Storm and how difficult those months apart were. So many times we may honor the soldier, but lets never forget those loved ones back home who can do nothing but pray for the safe return of those they love. Here is a video that kinda puts things in perspective what these family go through.
