I have to write about Albert Pujols and his 500th career Hr. Albert Pujols joined Alex Rodriguez and Jimmie Foxx as the 3rd youngest player ever to reach this milestone. While Rodriguezs career has been tarnished by scandal. It wasnt too long ago A-Rod was considered Baseballs golden child. Now hes a punch line in Eddie Murphys stand up routine. Yet Jimmie Foxx is a very comparable player to Pujols. Foxx retired as the greatest right handed hitter of all time. Double X was his nick name and Double X was Paul Bunyan-esque. He had the largest hands and arms players had ever seen. His 40oz bat often looked like a toothpick in his hands. Yet Foxx hit the most ferocious line drives and used all fields. His ability to hit for power, hit for average and drive in runs has made him the bench mark that todays right handed hitters are often compared to. Most recently Miguel Cabrera has drawn the comparisons to Foxx. In the 90s it was now hall of famer Frank Thomas. But between them it was Albert Pujols. Pujols and Foxx have much in common they are both career .320 plus hitters they both have a career OPS that hovers around 1.000. In 19 Years Double X amounted 534 career Hrs and 1922 RBIs. Pujols in just his 14th season is standing at 500 Career Hrs and over 1500 career RBIs. If Albert Pujols passes Foxxs great career numbers should Albert then become the bench mark where right handed hitters are compared? It makes for a interesting argument. As its stands Pujols at the age of 34 has 2300 plus career hits. 500 Career Hrs and over 1500 career RBIs If hes able to play out his contract at the age of 40 is it possible we will see a un juiced player in this era with over 3200 career hits, 650 plus career Hrs and over 2000 career RBIs? Sure only time will tell but my answer is: I sure hope so! In 2009 Albert Pujols was named the MLB player of the 1st decade of the century. He won the triple crown for the decade in the MLB, not just National League but all of the MLB where he posted the highest batting average, most Home runs and most RBIs of all players in that decade. The funny thing is Albert Pujolss rookie year was 2001, so in essence he spotted the rest of the Major Leagues 1 full season of stats before he unleashed his true remarkable greatness...... Now everyone here knows how much I love Barry Bonds. But I am asking you just as much as I am asking myself to take notice and watch Albert Pujols he may just be the best player of our lifetime.......
