I have too many memories to post, but one hit me tonight that I thought Id share. In 1999 we had won 40 games straight. I wanna say it was the nations 3rd longest winning streak at the time... I dont think any of us truly grasped how special that really was. We traveled on a Friday to Tyler, Texas to play john Tyler on a Saturday. We traveled there on a bus that was 120 degrees possibly hotter... I could tell you a whole story just about that bus, but Ill refrain. Someone will probably back me up on it. Anyway, that game was probably the worst played game of any in Shows tenure at WM. We didnt just lose; we created new ways for John Tylers defense to score. The game had been LONG over in the fourth quarter when Coach Shows walked up to me. I was in complete denial about the situation- remember, we hadnt lost a game since Jr. High. Ill never forget saying, Coach, are we going to lose this game? He put his hand up on my shoulder with his eyes closed (typical) and said, well, if you are so upset, maybe you should have played harder. (Typical) He walked off and in an unprecedented move, came back and said, Ben, the suns gonna come up tomorrow, boy... Were gonna get back to work Monday, and were gonna get better. I dont think we ever even watched film on that game. In fact, I dont think we ever even talked about it. We did just what he said we would do- went back to work. Its strange to me now because I dont think Id trade that game for a win. Part of that is because Ryan Simon and I had some things happen in that game that I have laughed and laughed about since Ryan died. It still stung, though. Lol. Funny how all those wins sort of run together, but those 2 losses are so vivid. That bus was hot, though. Sorry mayo tours, but you are solely responsible for that one. ;)
