I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food. (Job23:12) What is my necessary food? The margin note in the NKJV reads, More than my appointed portion. When things are normal, & one doesnt have to deal with terrorism, famine or war, the Lord has promised to provide a daily ration. In times of calamity & distress, God supernaturally has provided for His own. The necessary food or the appointed portion is the OT equivalent of the NT give us this day, our daily bread. It was said of Jehoiachin the king, while captive in Babylon, that he ate food regularly all the days of his life. It also said in 2 Kings 25:29-30, As for his provision, there was a regular ration given him by the king, a portion for each day, all the days of his life. You can also get an insight of the necessary food by the wilderness food from Egypt to Canaan. Exodus16:4 said, The children shall go out & gather (manna) a certain rate every day. In Job 23:12, he compares the daily supply of food & the Word of God consumed as spiritual food. Jer.15:16 states, Your Words were found & I ate them, & Your Word was to me the joy & rejoicing of my heart. Theres a natural appetite for food eaten to maintain life & well being. Likewise, there is a spiritual appetite given us so we can feed the inner man. Gods promises are that nourishment. Job said his appetite for Gods Word exceeded his appetite for daily food. Moses said it best in Deut.8:3: Man shall not live by bread alone; man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord. (Message)-- ....Ive obeyed every word Hes spoken, & not just obeyed His advice--Ive treasured it.
