I have two hand built sea chests, one with a lid, one without, - TopicsExpress

I have two hand built sea chests, one with a lid, one without, which were constructed more than two years ago, and spent most of the time since allowing the wood to mature in the elements. A common issue throughout re-enactment is that new equipment all too often looks sparkly, shiny, and far too new. For those who prefer that rough lived in look we have a treat for you. Hand Crafted And Aged Viking Sea Chest, Natural Poplar Timber. This chest was the prototype for a new range that was put on hold due to limits on our facilities. It was modelled on the Oseberg find with the difference being that this one slopes in both planes to make it more stable. After allowing to settle for several months, it was wax finished and then allowed to age naturally in the elements for two years. The result is a wonderful natural wood finish with some small areas of blue wood fungus to add to the effect. It really is lovely, and will be someones pride and joy. It will make a great centrepiece for any warrior of group as part of a working display or indeed on the longship. This is a one off offer, only two were ever constructed and only this one was completed with lid. The second one was completed as a chest, but never had a lid added as we did not find the right wood for the lid. When these are gone, they are gone. The dimensions of the Norse Sea Chest are thirty one inch along the base and thirty inch along the floor. Twelve inch across the base and eleven and a half inch across the floor. Sixteen inch up from the base and twelve inch up from the floor plus a one inch lid. The lid is twenty-seven and a half by nine and a half inch. I was looking for offers in excess of £120 for for the complete one and £100 for the not complete one, but any reasonable offer will be given serious consideration. Buyer is welcome to collect from Launceston, Cornwall, or arrange a carrier of their choice.
