I have two thoughts about the Fitness Trainer Re-examines CrossFit - TopicsExpress

I have two thoughts about the Fitness Trainer Re-examines CrossFit Genre. 1. Its cool that Dolce / Thibaudeau publicly changed his mind about CrossFit. 2. He only changed his mind because he thinks he can make more money being friendly than antagonistic. Where the heck was he when we were struggling? Both are true. Two factors make it harder for anyone in fitness to dismiss CrossFit in 2014 than in 2007: fitness and business. CrossFit athletes are much fitter at both the elite and affiliate level. 2007s world class is 2014s noon class. And this product, fitness, has driven another kind of success. There are now 41 times as many CrossFit gyms as there were in 2007. The front changed. In 2007 CrossFit was a small rebel movement at war with the fitness industry. Some of the staunchest critics now admit the wars over. CrossFit won. Eventually even Tony Horton will join Dolce and Thibaudeau and admit that he loves CrossFit (he already admits that he does the workouts - we take no responsibility for his squat form or eyeballs). Yes, the fitness war is over. But the War over Sickness is just beginning. Diet and exercise. Everyone agrees that Americans need to do more of both, but only a select few have found an effective formula for long-term transformations. It needs to be effective and fun. People have to enjoy and find meaning in it. CrossFit has that formula. And CrossFit affiliates will continue to create clients among the fortunate, and share the formula for free as an act of charity among the less fortunate. A longer and harder fight awaits us. Fitness is a small-time industry compared to health and food. In my lifetime, health care has replaced manufacturing as the dominant industry in most American states (blogs.wsj/numbers/how-americas-top-industries-have-changed-1990-2013-1619/). And yet, the health care industry doesnt know how to create health, with few exceptions. The U.S. federal government spends billions yearly subsidizing corn, wheat, and soy. The corn syrup industry passes some of their subsidized profits off to the aspiring gatekeepers (ACSM/NSCA) of the fitness industry, with predictable results. We know that the entrenched interests will not tolerate CrossFits rise to power pleasantly. They will keep fighting back. Knowing CrossFit, we will welcome this new fight.
