I have very few sporting heroes. Very few that I can honestly look back at and claim to have made a difference to my interest in Sports. I look back at this tribute with great pride therefore as Mark Waugh was my first inspiration ever in life. I remember imitating him in my debut vs St Bedes around 97. I tried rolling my tongue to lick my upper lip, loose grip on the handle, swaying back & forth and meeting the ball like meeting the love of your life. It was absolutely horrible to watch, no two ways about it. But my only boundary of that 26 I scored on debut came off a flick and that I will forever be proud off. In a school full of Sachins n Laras, I loved backing Juniors corner in every single lunch break. Learnt many a thing about finding your passion and backing it to the hilt. Heres a man who pioneered his craft without breaking sweat. Competed at the highest level and made it look ridiculously easy. If that doesnt make you fall for him, then nothing would. This tribute video really brought back some terrific memories and also some closure on how Junior operated. It was always about the Challenge and keeping it really simple. His speech sums up him beautifully. No frills, no paper. Just style AND substance (often understated about him IMO). My most favourite Mark Waugh memory is from WC 99 semi finals. 1 run needed from 3 balls. The field could not be packed any tighter. Defeat was written all over Australia. Klusener mistimes the ball to mid off and Junior pounces on it in a jiffy. Typical Mark Waugh intuition. It wasnt over yet. Junior beautifully flicks it while off balance. Not the first time youve read that about him. It couldnt have been any done any better. Fleming to Gilchrist and the rest is glorious history in Cricket. To the most beautiful thing in Cricket that I have ever seen, Thank You :)
