I have wanted to become a Pilates teacher for a long time. When I finally had the people in my life to support and encourage me, I signed up to take the Beginners Mat teacher training at The Pilates Center of Pittsburgh. I had no idea what to expect going into it and I had no idea how much I would learn and grow. When I walked in on the Friday at the beginning of the weekend really didn’t have any expectation about how the course would be run or what the people would be like. I will admit, I was overwhelmed wondering how on earth I would feel confident enough to teach in such a short amount of time. It didn’t seem possible in just one weekend. However, we engaged with the material right away. I quickly learned that every exercise served as a building block for us to keep building our knowledge and experiences on to. By the end of the weekend, I couldn’t believe how we got through the material in such a short amount of time. Even though it was a short amount of time, every minute of it was fruitful. When my fellow classmates introduced themselves, I realized how different we were. Some of us came from exercise backgrounds, some of us were dancers, some were managers and even computer technicians. But the reason why we were there was all the same. We were there to learn something. To learn more about ourselves and improve our own Pilates practice in order to become a successful Pilates instructor. For that reason, we all became close quickly. Julie Toren facilitated an environment that was non-judgemental where we could all be supportive of each other. Whenever someone had trouble with an exercise or with the way they were teaching it, we would keep on encouraging each other until we got it right. Even though we were all so different, by the end of the weekend and after all of our testing, we all became so close and now we are all good friends, which is something I didn’t expect to happen when I first walked in the door. I couldn’t be happier that I chose to enroll in Beginner Mat Core 1 training at the Pilates Center of Pittsburgh. I still cannot believe how much I was able to learn and grow in such a short amount of time. With all the support and love from Lesley Davenport and Julie Toren and my classmates, it has been an unforgettable experience and a great start to my career in becoming a great Pilates instructor.
