I have watched horrible examples of people hoarding cases upon cases of water and selling it at skyhigh prices, prices you cant even imagine. Clearing off shelves in the stores and taking it from people who desperately need it and cant afford to pay $25 for a case of water, especially with as much as they need just to get by daily. I have watched dozens of ignorant people on news station Facebook pages defending these people and saying that it is just supply and demand or it is just business. Attacking the people who are suffering from this or attacking the people who are concerned for those suffering. No, its not just business- everyday citizens going to the store and taking advantage of a state of emergency in order to try and make a profit by selling a $4 case of water for $25 because they are too lazy to work for their money, is not their right. The people trolling these news station Facebook pages are saying things like shame on you guys for not being prepared - but how in the world would anybody ever have been prepared for something like this? Are they supposed to keep 50 cases of water in their home at all times? They are screaming supply and demand and if you dont want to buy from the people selling it for $25 then go somewhere else and find it. Problem is, these people have cleaned off the shelves in the stores that people who need water would be going to, to find it. They are hoarding truckloads of it. The average person cannot just keep going to the next store. They have jobs to be at. Children to take care of. Other responsibilities besides sitting on the side of the road selling cases of water for five times regular price to people who desperately need it. How disgusting is this behavior? In a time of crisis we should be coming together, not trying to desperately step on each other in order to get the last dollar. A PlayStation 4 is supply and demand. Not this. Everybody should have access to fresh clean water. That is a basic human right. I live down by Findlay where our water has been untouched. But our stores have been cleaned out by people who desperately need clean water. We are 45 minutes away from Toledo and our stores have been wiped clean. We need to come together in a time like this. There are babies who need clean water for their bottles. There are moms who need clean water in order to cook their families dinner. There are children who need clean water to bathe in. Pets who need clean water to drink. The silver lining in all of this is that although it has showcased much of the evil, it has brought out and showcased so much of the good. The number of beautiful selfless people have outweighed the selfish. I have seen so many people that I both do and do not know, buying up as much water as they can from out of town and bringing it to Toledo, delivering it to those in need especially families with children and elderly. I have watched people open up their homes to complete strangers, offering them as much clean tapwater is they needed. I have all seen people who already have high water bills in the community that they live in, offering clean tapwater to others despite this fact. There will always be selfishness and evil in the world, but behind that the beauty will always shine. Please keep these communities in your thoughts and hopefully this gets sorted out soon. But I believe they will have a long road ahead of them because Lake Erie has been full of this toxic algae bloom for years now. For the past couple of years, it has not been uncommon to go up to the beach for a shoot and see signs telling people to stay out of the water. Its just finally gotten to the point where the drinking water was contaminated so badly that it cant be treated and is dangerous. Please keep all of this affected communities in your prayers.
