I havent had much of a chance to hear Wendy Davis speak at length, - TopicsExpress

I havent had much of a chance to hear Wendy Davis speak at length, so I decided to invest an hour in watching this debate via YouTube. Theres a problem with the video and audio, so youll need to fast forward to about the 7-minute mark. It was odd to hear Greg Abbott addressed as General Abbott. My first impression is that Wendys speaking style has a sort of relentless, almost machine-like cadence, and I dont mean that in a negative way. Its very deliberately articulated and for the most part sensical--not always a given for candidates. Abbotts remarks were also articulate, but somehow, at least for me, his style didnt keep my attention...Id find myself drifting. Wendys style sort of grabbed my attention and held it, which was kind of exhausting :-) Strategically, Abbott seems to have chosen to run against Obama and the Federal government, only some of the time referring to his opponent. By contrast, its clear who Wendys running against. She doggedly attacked him at every opportunity, exploiting weaknesses. I dont know if its a fact, but Wendy came across as better prepared for the debate. Her answers were rehearsed, smart, deliberate, and sparring. Abbott, on the other hand, relied more on self-confidence and experience, oftentimes ignoring the attacks. Its interesting that I find myself referring to him as Abbott and her as Wendy. As I reflect upon that a little, I dont believe I mean any disrespect. In fact, I think I must be picking up on her own desire to feel closer to voters. I think that strategy is working. At least for me.
