I havent posted about Teddy for a while, partly because there - TopicsExpress

I havent posted about Teddy for a while, partly because there hasnt been much to report. We still have nothing conclusive. The radiologists report from the sonogram was that there were some suspicious masses in the abdomen indicating the cancer had possibly spread into the body, but nothing confirming that. The pathology was equally non-decisive. Yesterday, I talked with my vet, and decided to take everything to the veterinary oncologist for a review and recommendations. My vet gave me the name and phone number of the specialist, and I called. For those in the northern VA area, this is someone at South Paws, which is a veterinary practice of various specialists. So, I called, and get a time set up, and the receptionist is asking me a few questions, and asks is Teddy is a dog or cat. So, I tell her, no, he is a ferret. Here at South Paws we no longer see ferrets at all she replies. So, I explained that my vet had spoken with the oncologist, and she had quoted him the prices for the initial consultation and the treatments, but the receptionist held firm that no vet at South Paws will see ferrets. So, I called my vet back, and today he tried to call South Paws. The head oncologist was out, as was the oncologist my vet was told would treat Teddy. They will not be in until Tuesday. So, my vet will try to reach them Tuesday morning early. Problem is, he is leaving town for several days and flying out on Tuesday afternoon. So, I am worried that he will call and leave a message, but they wont call back until after he has left. He is in tomorrow, and I am going to call and ask him if he can get another vet in his practice to act as a back-up while he is away. This is all going on too long. Every day that goes by there is a better chance the cancer is invading other parts of Teddys body. I just want to get to the next step, and start to try and stop the cancer from spreading further. In the meantime, Teddy is still unaware he is sick. Right now, he is half naked. His leg was shaved for the tumor removal, and now his entire belly is shaved, so the sonogram could be done.
