I havent posted any photos of our gardens lately. Weve built a few more raised bed gardens, mulched, and have tons of plants actually growing now (not a lot of real food being produced yet, though we have fresh basil out the wazoo). I built an irrigation system for the three sisters gardens (corn, squash and beans) out of reclaimed PVC pipe and a hose I got from the craigslist free section. All of the raised beds are built with reclaimed wood, as well. We even used reclaimed screws for most of them. Im amused to note that some of our best growing plants are happening in mounds of dirt were calling Shut up and grow food gardens, which took about 20 minutes to make...dig and turn the dirt, weeds and grass over, make a small mound, stick seeds in it, water it. Done. We didnt weed those spaces, didnt put in any fancy dirt from the dirt store (the raised beds have fancy $45/truckload dirt), and didnt put up a boundary. Now that theyre growing so well, I have added some nice mulch, and occasionally pluck a weed or two.
