I havent posted in awhile because I just have so any thoughts and couldnt find the time to organize them. He has been doing really well...until today. As part of our regular chemo schedule/routine, his white counts bottomed out on Wednesday. Today he developed a fever of 102.5, which is dangerous because he does not have an immune system to naturally fight off the infection. If he does not get immediate IV antibiotics, the infection could spread and cause life threatening issues. On top of it, his hemoglobin is extremely low, so his heart is working harder to try and pump enough blood and oxygen to his organs. So his little body is just in overdrive trying to keep him going. He will require a blood transfusion to bring up the hemoglobin. I am posting this from the passenger seat of the Native Air Medical helicopter, we are being flown from Las Cruces to Albuquerque- UNM because Las Cruces just doesnt have facility or personnel (Im not sure) to handle pediatric oncology patients. He was very scared, but seems to be settling in now. We are a little more than halfway there.
