I havent ranted about anything in quite some time, so I guess Im due. To all of my friends that I told about and recommended the water proof, shock proof LifeProof case....for get it!! Im on my third one. Two were for iPhone 4 and I just recently purchased the one for my iPhone 5s. I bought it from the AT&T store where I bought my phone and the salesman put it on. I watched him and he performed this task perfectly. With my past cases, Ive been able to put my phone in the back pocket of my shorts and jump in the river. You can actually take pictures underwater because its truly water PROOF. Last Sunday I got my new phone and case in the pool. Coming home later I noticed that my keyboard wasnt functioning properly. I took the case apart (not an easy task with this case and I was told in the past by LifeProof to do this only when necessary because the prying can damage the case). I found water inside the case. Now, my phone is doing all of the same weird things its done in the past when there was water damage. I called LifeProof and told them what happened. They told me that they would send me a new case, but that they were in no way liable for the $200 deductible it will cost me to replace my phone under its insurance policy. She told me that once I received my new case, I needed to snap it together without my phone in it and check for water. Ive done this in the past and all that really tells you is whether its waterproof right then. You could take it apart and put your phone in it and if the rubber gasket is twisted or theres a fleck of dust it could still affect the water proof capability. She then told me that I needed to remove my case and check it for its integrity each and every time BEFORE MY PHONE GOES IN THE WATER!! Really??! Im a 52 year old chiropractic physician who lives a fairly sedate life. Id imagine that there are any number of LifeProof customers who are young people in college. Am I really supposed to believe that these people are interrupting their beer pong game to check their case for its waterproof integrity BEFORE they jump in the water??! What about if the phone goes in the water and it WASNT planned? The first time I got water damage was when I forgot that I had put my phone in the back pocket of my shorts and went to the bathroom. Shorts went down and phone went in toilet. Id think that MOST of the times that youd need your phone protected against water it would be in a situation that was accidental and NOT PLANNED. What is the point in spending $80 for a case that claims its better because its water PROOF, yet you are basically instructed to assume that this feature is faulty and will fail to protect your phone and must anticipate every time the phone gets wet whether on purpose or by accident?! Thats one of the most ridiculous things Ive ever heard! If youve ever owned one of these cases, youd know that it makes much more sense the way they instructed me when I bought my first one. Put it on properly and then avoid opening it unless absolutely necessary. You have to pry the two pieces apart and its easy to see that the more that you do this the more you would risk damage to the case. I also could have sworn that their warranty covered your PHONE if it were damaged when I got my first case. It seems to me that if youre claiming that the case you sell protects the phone from water damage if installed properly, that if it fails and your phone sustains damage as a result they would assume that liability. Once again, what is it that theyre actually claiming this technology can do?? The only way you can know if its waterproof is to check it first without the phone in it and then you not only have to do this every time before the phone goes into the water, but its your responsibility to ANTICIPATE when that might happen!! If Ive said it once, Ive said it a thousand times.....its a darned good thing that I dont do MY job the way Im forced to tolerate the way some others do theirs‼️ Oh....and the warranty instructions for me to get this case replaced consists of a multi step process which includes taking the case off, laying the two pieces next to one another, taking a picture and sending it in. It doesnt matter to them whether there are any visible signs of damage nor are they concerned with how or why this case failed to protect my phone. Ill do their little dance this time just to see if I notice any difference in the way the new one looks and fits once Ive got it on. But, Im basically rescinding my recommendation for this product. If they cant guarantee that it protects your phone and require you to check it and anticipate before it goes in the water, it doesnt sound to me as if THEY even have much faith in it....why should I⁉️😝
