I heard about the proposed sale of golf course shares to a private party. I asked this question during the ALP reign and I am asking it during the UPP reign. why cant the government offer shares of its assets to the general public if it wishes to divest. you want sell state insurance? offer it to the general public, you want to sell ECAB? offer it to the general public. WIOC? general public. APUA PCS (especially when it was making money hand over fist in the early 2000s) the general public. in other words let your citizens have the opportunity to own everything if they can afford it, and what they dont take up, you can sell to private groups. encourage the public ownership concept. encourage the idea of attending shareholders meetings to give the average man an idea of how big business operates. diversify the shareholder base to improve transparency and reduce corruption via better corporate governance. When your own citizens actually own these companies, they get back some of their money that they spend as consumers of these companies and they would have a better appreciation for pricing etc. Am I asking too much? jeez!
