I heard some sad news tonight. A man, a fellow retired Airman, a friend of mine while we served at a Air Force Base that was closed in the early 90s, Loring AFB, Maine, passed away. Chief Master Sergeant (Retired) Brian S Glasgow battled colon cancer. I didnt even know he was ill and battling cancer. I only served together with Brian for two years, but I have never forgotten him. He lived in the dormitory as me. He used to kick back in his chair, put his feet on the edge if the desk and smoke a ciggy butt, as he called them. To this day, I still the young Airman that I work with today a story that Brian played the major role. As a military personnelist, Human Resources for all non military folks, we take a lot of crap from other military specialities cause everyone is a personnelist, but only a handful hold the AF specialty! Brian worked in Outbound Assignments and he had a Staff Sergeant who was changing stations that he was counseling and out processing. Brian didnt like this guy. So Brian was jerking him around. Brian told him everything he needed to do, but this guy didnt get it. Brian decided he was going to have this guy do one thing at a time to clear the base. This went on a few days. Lol So this SSgt comes in one day, and he was pissed. He starts cussing Brian up and down. Brian, grabs a cigarette, leans back and in a louder voice, so the Senior NCO in charge can hear him, goes, Sergeant Stewart, whats you say? So Stewart repeats himself and leaves the office. The Sr NCO gets up and goes Airman Glasgow what he say to you? Brian, not misses a beat, repeats every four-letter word that came out of that SSgts mouth. Lol. MSgt Schmaedig, flew out of the office to get a hold of that SSgt. She caught him. Next thing you know his commander, first sergeant and flight chief were up in our building. To make this long post short. The assignment gets cancelled, he gets busted to an A1C, gets in trouble again, loses two more stripes and eventually receives a general discharge as an Airman Basic. One of my favorite Brian Glasgow memories. Rest in Peace my friend and O-H.
