I heard someone say once that when a painting is being restored, delicate chemicals are used to remove layers until the fine original work of art is displayed. Our lives are like those paintings. When God gets a hold of them, He starts making us into the people He created us to be. But in order for Him to do this, He has to start using His loving, tender way to rid us of layers of yuck that we may have built up over the years trying to protect ourselves from hurt and disappointment. He does this so that we will come out as the shining example of a Christian that we are to be. But we will never attain it. We should always be striving with God as our leader. In Romans 2:4 we learn that God is, “Tolerant and patient.” He works with us on a daily basis to tear down those awful layers, but He can only go as fast as we allow Him to. I thank God that no matter how many layers He takes off, there is always room for improvement. Isn’t it amazing that He already sees us as the saint we need to be? Do you know what is a really awesome thought to me? The minute we become a follower, in God’s eyes we are already the saints we need to be. Perhaps when the layers start to come off, we have more pain than we want to go through. But that’s all right! Remember the saying, “No pain, no gain?” When we give our permission to God, we gain more than I could ever begin to tell you. You are loved so very much, so don’t hold anything back. You are loved just the way you are, but God wants more for you!
