I heard something rather disturbing today that I wanted to comment on. Yesterday, Thanksgiving Day, it started to snow here in Lockport. By 8pm almost 6 inches of snow had fallen. Compared to what our friends South of Buffalo encountered recently this is a small amount. It does, however, make the roads treacherous. Now comes the disturbing part....the City of Lockport Streets Department REFUSED to come to work to salt and plow the roads. So instead, the Lockport Police needed to go out and block off roads that were too icy or slippery to drive on. So the police are now being stretched thin to cover for these men and women who decided, in their infinite wisdom, that they were too important to have to come to work on a holiday. At best, they should all lose their jobs. At worst, they should be fined for putting an entire cities citizens at risk on the busiest travel day of the year because mother nature decided to hit us on a holiday. I am thankful to the police department for doing what yhey could to keep us safe. Luckily, there werent any major emergencies they needed to handle and they could assist. I guess were lucky that these werent the people responsible for digging out of the 6-8 feet of snow last week south of here. Wed probably still be buried. I mean really, how dare Mother Nature do that. Its only allowed to snow Monday through Friday from 9am to 4pm EXCLUDING holidays. To say that I am in complete disbelief is an understatement!
