I heard the President justifying the arrest of Sammens and questioning why media houses should publish stories which are not credible. His beef was with an article from West African Online which apparently, first broke the cocaine story. So I looked for the story and read it. These are the facts the story by West Africa Online Claimed 1. A Ghanaian lady had been arrested at Heathrow with cocaine - Established as Truth 2. The cocaine was 12.5kg with street value of 5million dollars - Established as Truth 3. Her name is Ruby Adu-Gyamfi alias Angel - Established as Truth 4. She carried her consignment in hand luggage - Established as Truth 5. She has a diplomatic passport - Challenged by government but confirmed by various other sources 6. She used the VVIP - Yet to be denied by any government spokesperson 7. That Ghanaian intelligence agencies were totally in the dark on the operation - Established as fact Now when that story came out, these were the facts government through their various spokespersons put out and the status of those claims per their own admissions now 1. The story was a complete hoax, no Ghanaian had been arrested - Turned out to be false Then when it was confirmed, they also said the following 2. Her real name was Nayeli Ametefeh and not Ruby Adu Gyamfi - Turned out to be false 3. The cocaine was not carried in hand luggage -Turned out to be false 4. She didn’t use VVIP - Turning out to be false 5. That it was a collaboration between Government and British - Turned out to be false 6. She doesn’t have a diplomatic passport - Contested by several sources including the leading Austrian Daily So with this tale of tape between West Africa Online, which Mahama claimed was not credible and that mainstream media should not have published the story from them; and the government, lets ask ourselves these few questions 1. Between West Africa Online and the Government, who has turned out to be more credible on this particular matter? 2. If anyone should be arrested for publishing inconsistencies, should it be those that published the government’s side of the story, which has changed several times already, or those like Citi Fm who published the story by West Africa Online, which has turned out to be either wholly true or corroborated by various other sources? 3. Between West Africa online and the government, who can we now say, has been trying hard to deceive the people of Ghana? 4. If we have a President with a conscience, who should he be annoyed with in this particular matter? West Africa online, citi fm or his government? 5. Why is the government struggling so much with this issue? What is their interest?
