I heard the incoming USC decided to abolish the Freshmen Committee - TopicsExpress

I heard the incoming USC decided to abolish the Freshmen Committee and the Committee on Organizations, Fraternities, and Sororities and placed it under the Students Rights and Welfare Committee. As a former member of the USC, I cant seem to find any logical reason to do so. For one, these committees, albeit cater to students interest, have their own particular focus. The STRAW focuses on pertinent student concerns such as admission problems, student policies, among other things. It regularly attends meetings and dialogues such as the UCSFA that tackles scholarship concerns. Meanwhile, COFS handles organizational concerns such as tambayans, recognition processes, etc., which are dynamic and need particular attention. Second, its impractical. Previous COFS and STRAW committees already had difficulty handling the many concerns of the studentry. Actually, before COFS, there was the DOFS that included dormers concerns. But the previous USCs saw the need to give focus to dormers and orgs concerns so they decided to form COFS and BSS. The principle of forming committees is to ensure collective leadership and accountability among the council. By abolishing a very important committee such as COFS, the USC will definitely fall-short in ensuring its many responsibilities to the studentry. This is quite a disappointing start. I hope that this incoming USC upholds its motto of serving the students and the people.
