I heard the news in the middle of the night on my little transistor radio. I had just bought this single because my girlfriend had been raving about it, pointing out the look out! in the middle. She was my first real girlfriend and I wanted to impress her so I bought the single. This is the tetchy, honest, foolish, incorruptible soul of The Beatles at his post Beatles best, writing songs that he must have known would attract no small measure of ridicule and caring not one rats ass, no more than he did when he insisted on Revolution No. 9 being included on a Beatles album or on his mate Stuart Sutcliffe being the bass player despite the fact that he couldnt actually play the bass or on breaking up the greatest and most successful rock and roll band in history because it was the only way that he could both free himself from it and remind all concerned that The Beatles were Johns band. Sleep well, little boy. My first real girlfriend remains my girlfriend and every now and then, it is indeed, just like starting over.
