I heard this morning that a local cyclist was hit by a car last night and died from her injuries. This hits home for several reasons. 1. I ride on that road. Its maybe 2 miles from my house, maybe only 1 as the crow flies. 2. She was a mom with little kids. 3. This is my #1 fear with cycling. Its my husbands too. It is the reason why whenever we ride, we are decked out in neon. It is the reason my hubby has spent hours on the bike trainer waiting until he felt it was light enough outside. I totally support him on his #Ironman journey, but this is my absolute worst fear. And it happens far too often. I dont worry about it as much with running for some reason; probably because you run against traffic, so you can see if someone is paying attention or not. You can make eye contact. Cycling goes with traffic, so you dont have that opportunity. I dont know the details of this local tragedy. I dont know who is at fault where or if it was a combination of bad things. Regardless, the bottom line is the same; some kids are missing their mother. And that makes me sad.
