I heard this statement today in reference to a missionary who went to a fierce tribe to bring the Gospel. Every one before he arrived was massacred. Obviously, this man had to die to himself before he dared go and bring the love and truth of Christ to these people. He survived and then thrived amongst them for thirty years. After he died, the natives made this epitaph in his honor, Before he came, there was no light. After he died, there was no darkness. If only that could be truly said of us.
