I heard this story once about this man who learned one of his acquaintances had been diagnosed with cancer. This person was in no way able to handle such a catastrophic illness financially. So this guy stepped in and paid for most of the sick persons bills and expenses, although he himself was by no means rich. The patient even had a triumphant recovery. Great story. It seemed even more real because both people are Facebook friends. But it was still somewhat isolated from me, though, kind of distant, like the kind of thing that only happens to other people. But then this same guy, the guy who paid for the medical treatment, volunteered to help me do a difficult and tedious job. I welcomed his help. This same selfless person came to my house, supplied the materials, designed and supervised the job, worked for hours in humidity so thick that it dripped. He never asked for a thing in compensation. He did the job as if he were doing it for himself. He was cheerful the whole time he was giving. God loves a cheerful giver. I want to be more like this person. You can talk about righteousness all you want, but righteousness is action, not a theology.
