I heard/witnessed a very interesting thing on the Steve Harvey Morning Show today. A new artist, George Tandy, Jr., was debuting his incredible new song March. Steve Harvey instructed the Steve Harvey Nation to download the song for $0.99 on iTunes and also allowed George to give his Twitter and Instagram account info. Steve then called Rickey Smiley, introduced him to George, played the song again (for the third time in a row) and instructed him to not only play it on the Smiley morning show - but, to get his followers to purchase the song and join Georges social media pages. Rickey Smiley said that he could do that and more. He said that George could actually come on his show and sing the song. Rickey then asked Steve to text the song/artist info to him immediately so that he could the process started. Meanwhile, George is on the phone absolutely flabbergasted that all of this is happening to him in a matter of moments. Since I love Steve Harvey so much, I just downloaded the beautiful ballad and supported a brand new artist. However, I couldnt help but be in awe at how Steve - with a network of 7.5 million listeners reached out to his friend Rickey with 4.0 million listeners - immediately CHANGED the life a new artist. Meanwhile, Im waiting with bated breath, every single day, hoping that the cities and states and artists that Ive groomed, given a stage to and supported are willing to sow at least $10 into my campaign so that I, too, can make my dreams take flight. This is no pity party, I promise. But, how different would our lives be as artists...how many Detroit artists could we really help change the world, if we took on Steves mentality? Steve purchased the song, then called everyone he knew to make a dream come true. It was an interesting witness of community for me today. And it left me hopeful.
