I held the lift for 2 Japanese ladies earlier this afternoon as I was on my way out of the office. They had come to our office to purchase a couple of zig zag brochure stands. I know they can be quite heavy. The bigger one is easily 12kg. I offered to help her carry it, but she politely and furiously declined. They thanked me for holding the lift for them. She shared that their company needs lots of these products for use in the many exhibitions that they participate in every year. Her colleague praised the website we have and the transparent pricing because it helped them to make a decision quickly instead of having to call and check. When we reached the ground floor, the first lady asked if I am the boss and if we have only 3 staff. I told her that yes I am the owner and we have more staff, some on leave and some are outside doing delivery. Next time, you can just call us. We can deliver the stands for you, I told her. I smiled generously. I used Open Body Gestures, like how Azzam Sabtu taught us. I nodded profusely and bent my head lower and smiled with my eyes, to match & mirror their style of talking. We will definitely look forward to ordering more stands in future, they replied. They seemed genuinely happy. You see, at PullUpStand, we practise non-pushy selling. In fact, its more about sharing. It comes from an understanding that everyone goes out everyday to work, to provide for themselves and their loved ones, and everyone wants to do their best. Everyone wants to to be happy, and everyone wants to be appreciated. As I drove out of the office compound, I see them loading the back of a taxi with the stands. One of them looked up, recognised me and waved. I waved back before turning the corner. We want to work with people we like. Be it customers, suppliers, team members. We have to become someone that other people will like. Business tak susah. Jangan susahkan benda yang senang.
