I hereby declare my leaf mould making experiment a raging success. - TopicsExpress

I hereby declare my leaf mould making experiment a raging success. Its only about six months since starting to hoard it and bulding the pile in the tower and look what its turned into already. Crumbly, earthy, beautifully scented humus. To repeat what Ive said about how I did this before, I did nothing to it at all, bar piling it and leaving it alone. This is from the larger diameter tower. The smaller one hasnt been anywhere near as successful. The larger diameter one is ~ 75 cm in diameter and I imagine it worked better due to the volume of leaves that were far from the edges. I wasnt scientific about it, so all I can suggest is that if youre planning to try this, have a base of at least that size. So in conclusion, we can make this black gold that takes two years in the northern hemisphere from what I read in not merely 12 months but only six. In preparation for next year, I plan to relocate this to a better location, cut it down a bit so I can hoard leaves in chaff bags to keep topping it up through the year and readily tip them in to the top a bag at a time and cut a little gate in the bottom to make the finished product readily accessible. Then Ill have a continuous supply throughout the year from now on. So anyone whos wondered about making this is Australia, give it a go. Its a good deal easier than people and the internet made it out to be.
