I hesitated, but then decided to post this story here on CCF by the brilliant Andrew Soloman about his experience in Africa with a shaman/wise woman as part of his research into depression. The reason Im posting it here, for a craft weighted read, besides the fact that its a wonderful story, is that craft is about stories. Some of the common ones these days are about politics, production, gender identity. Historically they are about who made what and when. This is a story about an encounter between two worlds and cultures - an amusing one, as they often are. Sometimes craft is about helping and healing - we went to a MOMA symposium a few months ago about healing and art - and this is a healing story. Its also about performance - worth noting in todays art world. Along the way there are many art/craft materials mentioned - see if you can spot them. And it has a killer punch line. youtube/watch?v=-UBgBpFGODI
