I honestly feel like Im having a meltdown at the moment, and its taking every fiber of my being to be restrained about this. Earlier today, I read a news article about a 12 year old boy from California that committed suicide. This YOUNG and purely INNOCENT boy was bullied relentlessly because he was presumed to be gay, which honestly made my heart break... why? Because I have a 12 year old brother. I know that the majority of my Facebook posts pertain to this topic, but that is because this is my PASSION. I couldnt even begin to imagine what his family is going through, but to an extent I can imagine what this boy, Ronin, was. I knew I was gay when I was 12... most DO. To feel hopeless, unwanted, and SINFUL at such a young age is the reason why LGBT individuals are 8 times more likely to commit suicide. This childs death (along with countless others) was the direct cause of IGNORANCE. This is no longer a matter of opinions because your IGNORANT and self-righteous opinions are indirectly causing this pain and suffrage upon millions of people. Your way of thinking indirectly caused the death of this child, and his blood is on your hands. A constitutional right to express your opinion freely does not grant you an escape from the consequences that come along with it. I cannot simply turn the other cheek or agree to disagree on this topic. Not anymore. If you deny scientific evidence, millions of personal claims, or share the opinions of ANY of those who led this poor child to take his life... then do me a favor and remove yourself from my Facebook and never speak to me again, because youve lost every shred of respect when you left your humanity at the door. I dont care how respectful you are with your beliefs, youre still wrong. The same goes to all forms of intolerance! If you have any sort of opinion against Hispanics, Muslims, African Americans, ANYONE... Then dont let the door hit you on your way out of my life. If anyone calls me out for being a hypocrite then youve missed the whole point. Being intolerant or homophobic is a choice, being gay isnt. This child deserved better.
