I honestly hate modern day politics. They try and make enemies out of people who have a friendship going back centuries. A good friend of mine was telling me last week about his encounter with an Orthodox Jew. The Sabbath was about to start and the Jewish guy was stranded with a briefcase that he wasnt allowed to handle for religious reasons (that I dont know) on the Sabbath. He saw my friend through a shop window donning his beard and his long tawb (cultural Muslim dress in the Gulf and North Africa) so immediately identified him as a Muslim. The Jewish guy approached my friend and asked him whether he could help. He said he specifically chose my friend pretty much because he looked trustworthy from his appearance. Recognising he was in a bit of distress, my friend took him to somewhere private where he could find out how he could help. The Jewish man wanted him to leave his briefcase containing money and other valuables. Friend agreed, counted the money and returned it to the Jewish guy the next day. Moral of the story: The orthodox Jew knew he could count on the practising Muslim to come to his aid and trusted him with his valuble belongings. Might have been his only hope, but even in that situation, he felt an outwardly looking Muslim was his best bet.
