I honestly love the TED talks, and every time we have had to watch a video for an assignment, i find myself watching them over and over- and also sharing it with my family, who are very politically opinionated people. I loved the way this video help break down the hypocrisy, and danger in capitalism. He mentions how the institution has failed, not that it is a theory, it is a real fact that no longer needs debate. I can really appreciate when he mentions the fact that everyone has become lost in theory ( here he is more referring to economic theory- but I believe that can carry out into many aspect of human life) , epically a false believe in the ability of markets, a.k.a industry. American has become obsessed with consumerism and the idea of capital gain that it has lost conscientious in the reality that our system has been statistically failing for a while now. I also found it very interesting how Americans are almost a rare breed in the fact that we put so much cultural importance on home ownership. He really illustrates his Marxist views when he mentions how since the 1930s we have been fed the longing diligences to the mortgage interest tax deduction, thus creating this never ending cycle of debt and economic slavery. I honestly believe that capitalism in it current state cannot work because the distribution of wealth is so grossly disproportioned. But then the question becomes, How do we fix that? I would love to believe in a free market, but I do not think humans are capable of producing such a society. thersa.org/…/an…/rsa-animate-crisis-of-capitalism
