I hope Im not boring everybody to tears with these family stories, but thats all I have. Here goes with another, because still and all its part of Keyports history: From the Brooklyn Daily Eagle newspaper, issue of Sept. 9, 1900, page 48: EXPLOSION ON OYSTER BOAT MARY F. DURRUA A Half Barrel Tank of Naphtha Blows While the oyster boat - Mary F. Durrua of Keyport, N.J. was lying at the foot of Beekman Street, Manhattan, yesterday afternoon, Captain Peter Durrua in command, there was a severe explosion in the hold over the bow, which blew open the hatches. A tank containing a half barrel of naphtha was in the bow and this exploded, being ignited from a light which was being used by the steward who was aft. The damage was slight and the fire boat Robert A. Van Wyck quickly extinguished the fire. The Mary F. Durrua is fitted with a gasoline engine and a screw, and will be taken to Keyport.
