I hope Im wrong, but everything points in that direction, that IS(IS) is probably going to merge together with many Al-Qaeda associated groups, so far IS(IS) only had a few defectors from Al-Qaeda affliated groups other than Jabhat al-Nusra - where some 85% of their foreign fighters switched side to IS(IS) after the conflict between Jolani and Abu Bakr began. However, according to US officials, with the recent extreme gains made by IS(IS), defections from Al-Qaeda affliated groups to IS(IS) have increased significantly, primarily from Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Pennisula and Al-Qaeda in Islamic Maghreb - Worth noting is that Ansar al-Sharia is affliated with Al-Qaeda in Islamic Maghreb, and they recently carved out their own Islamic Emirate in Eastern Libya, and judging by their fighters and the footage from there, they are very sympathetic towards IS(IS). If that happens, IS(IS) will have no problem is expanding their operations beyond Syria, Iraq and Lebanon as not only is there a huge power vaccum in Libya, they also have the fighters in Libya (and some at the Tunisian-Algerian border and Mali), but they also have more than enough money to fund, recruit and fight there - With some $2 billion in reserves, at least 5 oil fields with all of them only going at 10-30% of maximum capacity and many big donations from Wahhabi types in the Gulf. Now, with that being said, say what you want about US airstrikes in Iraq, but some things are for sure: 1) It is, undoubtedly, going to boost and ease their ability to recruit new members, both locally but more so internationally and 2) IS(IS) is going to become much more attractive to other *already* Jihadists, donors and Al-Qaeda supporters.
