I hope Ms Principal of my sons public school in Brooklyn is reading this. Charter schools in NYC have such appeal because public schools are a dump. They are still in 1970-s NYC. Thats why parents are desperate enough to trust the lottery, if they dont have enough money to send their kid to private school, and if their child did not manage to get into one of those accelerated, gifted and talented Middle Schools, that are harder to get into than Harvard. Where did Dante go to school? Lets talk about two cities! Why cant Ms Principal answer a simple email? Where is the accountability? I brought my son from a public school in Vermont. The town is poor, yet the school has well rehearsed orchestra (my son played double-bass), large gym, soccer field, chess on ipads, robotics, etc. Mr Principal there is an awesome leader and has no troubles communicating with parents. My sons school in Brooklyn has an empty auditorium with withering folding chairs, used only for PTA meetings, gym barely the size of a classroom, concrete backyard with broken hoops, where kids are NOT ALLOWED to run during recess, outdated computers and no extras.
